Leslie Cannold

Dr Leslie Cannold is Head of Programs at Cranlana Centre for Ethical Leadership. Dr Cannold has a PhD in Education (Melbourne) and a Masters in Bioethics (Monash), where she studied under and later worked for Professor Peter Singer.

In her research fellow role at the Centre for Applied Philosophy and Public Ethics, Dr Cannold pioneered the role of “public ethicist,” engaging audiences with real world ethical dilemmas in regular columns in the Fairfax Press, as a regular guest on ABC Radio Melbourne and Radio Sydney, and on ABC TV’s Q & A and Moral Compass, and Ten’s The Project.

She currently provides analysis and opinion about ethics and democracy for Crikey. As talent for ICMI & Saxton and a founding faculty member at The School of Life in Melbourne, Leslie designed and delivered keynotes, panels and workshops on ethical and inspirational leadership for learners in the private, public, educational and not-for profit sectors.

Dr Cannold has been recognised for her contributions to national discussions of ethics and diversity through Ministerial appointments as Chair of the Department of Health’s Human Research Ethics Committee, the Mental Health Tribunal and the Forensic Leave Panel and through notices for her fiction and non-fiction writing from the American Library Association, an EVA award and she was awarded Australian Humanist of the Year in 2011.
